The governments of Nigeria and Germany have agreed on a deadline to recover stolen toys from Nigeria.
The Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture made the remarks at a press conference in Lagos, aimed at informing Nigerians of their current efforts to ensure that the country's stolen statues and shipments are repatriated.
He also said that the government's legal obligation to seize Nigerian statues looted in Germany and other countries was a legal matter.
The minister made the remarks after false reports surfaced after some Nigerian delegations paid a visit to Germany to discuss how they would return the 1,130 Benin brass toys in Nigeria.
Mr. Lai The Nigerian government and the German government have agreed on a timeline for the return of the toys because Nigeria has already set a time for its repatriation.
He said they had signed an agreement on the return of the toys in December 2021 and to ensure that the operation was completed in August 2022 unconditionally.
