The city of Kigali has introduced a new form of transportation in the city using bicycles as part of Rwanda's efforts to address pollution and reduce carbon emissions in the country's growing cities and urban centers.
Travelers will be able to use these bikes in rotation in the capital Kigali at a lower price compared to other transport available in the city.
In Kigali, Remera Street, many green and yellow bicycles are parked on every street corner.
Residents of the town are downloading the application from their mobile play store so that they can use our bicycle, '' explains a young woman who has been briefing passersby on how to use the bikes.
There are 13 of these bicycle stations in Kigali where there are also special cycling roads. On Remera Street near the football field, there are other stations and some have started using these bikes.
According to the ‘Gura Ride’ company that manages this program, the aspiring cyclist picks it up at a nearby station and then transports its operations to another station near the end of its journey.
However, the challenge is that there are still a few roads for these cyclists in Kigali, and the mountains in Kigali can be a hindrance.
But the characters have answers to those challenges, Jerry Ndayishimiye is a GuraRide officer:
Kigali Mayor Pudence Rubingisa said the aim of the project was to address environmental degradation: "We want transportation that helps us to protect our environment, travel without cars because when we travel by bicycle it will be very good for our health by getting fresh air."
