US President Joe Biden is expected today to welcome King Abdullah of Jordan, a key US ally from the Middle East. The summit will be the first of three face-to-face meetings to be held soon with regional leaders.
King Abdullah will also meet with Vice President Kamala Harris tomorrow along with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Abdullah has a unique role to play in Middle Eastern politics. For he is regarded by the United States as a wise and moderate leader. And so he can be used as a mediator for local conflicts.
Abdullah's visit will be followed by that of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi - July 26. Biden will later meet new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
