Morocco tried to hack French President Macron's phone

Reports from France say that Moroccan security services intercepted a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron using Israeli-made spy wire - Pegasus spyware.

Human rights groups Forbidden Stories and Amnesty International say Rabat recognized the phone that President Macron has been using since 2017.

It is not clear whether the Pegasus wire was ever used.

Several ministers were also allegedly monitored, including former prime minister Edouard Philippe.

Their phone numbers were among the 50,000 numbers listed among the numbers that could be retrieved.

The report stated that digital surveillance of Pegasus cables was present on dozens of such phone numbers.

The manufacturer of Pegasus, NSO Group, says it sells the device to governments investigated for crime and terrorism.
