Russian President Vladimir Putin has told US envoy John Kerry that his country and the United States have the same attitude in fighting climate change.
This is a rare place that the United States and Russia agree. In a statement, the Kremlin said President Putin highly valued the effectiveness of the Paris agreement and that he supported political neutrality in talks on climate issues.
For years Putin had opposed the idea that global warming was man-made, saying that Russia was benefiting from it.
But he has relaxed his stance in the past few months with his secretary, Dmitry Peskov, saying climate change and reducing carbon emissions are a priority for President Putin.
