The Football Association of England has condemned racism against England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka after Sunday's Euro 2020 Cup defeat by Italy on penalties.
All three players missed their penalty kicks in the tournament which they lost 3-2 and were targeted on social media after the tournament. Metropolitan police are investigating the discrimination and have said it will not be "tolerated". The FA has said it is "shocked" by the racist remarks. England players have been on their knees in the Euros to highlight their fight against apartheid in their team.
"We will do everything we can to help the affected players while emphasizing the toughest punishments on everyone involved.".
"Social media companies need to take action and take responsibility for banning abusers from their platforms, gathering evidence that could lead to prosecution and help keep their platforms from being used for these abuses," Rashford highlighted the racist incidents he received on social media in May losing the Europa League final to Manchester United.
Last year Sancho was among the star players who complained against racism following the murder of George Floyd and a police officer in Minneapolis. Social media companies have been criticized for the lack of action on racist harassment on their platforms, and in April Instagram announced a tool to enable users to automatically filter abusive messages from those who do not follow them.
Following several incidents of cyberbullying, several clubs, players, athletes, and sports organizations participated in a four-day boycott of social media in April to encourage the company to take a strong stance against racism and sexual harassment.
