The United Nations High Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Ramesh Rajasingham, has said that the Covid-19 disaster has affected more conflict-affected and poor countries this year than in previous years.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, the senior official said the situation was exacerbated by vaccinations, health care problems, and the spread of a new type of coronavirus called Delta in 124 countries, including 17 volatile and controversial.
In a statement, Rajasingham said by 2021, almost three-quarters of the nations needed humanitarian assistance and that there had been a record of more cases of infection or death than in the previous year.
