A warning of a terrorist attack has been issued at Kabul airport

Several states say there is a high risk of a terrorist attack at Kabul airport and warn their citizens not to travel there.

Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom have issued warnings to their citizens. Those outside the airport have been advised to leave the area immediately.

More than 82,000 people have been evacuated from Kabul, where Taliban militants have taken control over the past 10 days.

Countries are struggling to remove their citizens before the deadline set for August 31.

Thousands of people are still waiting inside and outside the stadium, hoping to leave the country.

The Taliban have opposed the extension of the operation but have promised to allow foreign nationals and Afghan nationals to leave the country after August 31, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

On Thursday, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne said: "There is a high level of threat of a terrorist attack."

That comes hours after the US State Department told those waiting at the Abbey Gate, East Gate, and North Gate "to leave as soon as possible".
