UN human rights experts have called on states to temporarily suspend the use of cybercrime and spyware until relevant laws are enacted to regulate cybercrime technology that violates human rights.
Experts who spoke on the Pegasus recruitment program after the revelation said they were "deeply concerned" that a completely new approach was being used to expose, intimidate and silence human rights activists.
An investigation conducted last month showed evidence that the state-of-the-art military technology developed by the Israeli company, the NSO, was used for spying, journalists, human rights activists, and political opponents. UN experts have established direct contact with the company as well as the Israeli government.
