Ronaldo: I still haven't considered retiring from football

Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his determination to continue playing for his national team for many years to come after breaking the international scoring record.

The 36-year-old has broken the long-held record held by Iran national team hero Ali Daei with 109 goals.

Ronaldo, who has rejoined Manchester United from Juventus, scored twice in the final minutes of the World Cup qualifier against Ireland, helping his side to a crucial 2-1 victory on Wednesday.

Ronaldo, who is the top scorer in the Champions League in Europe and also leads the scoring charts in Real Madrid history, led his country to emerge European Championship champions in Euro 2016.

"All the records I have broken in my football career, this is very special to me and is one of the proudest achievements," he wrote on his Instagram account.

Ronaldo has become the first player to participate in five European competitions and won a gold shoe in this year's Euro 2020.

He could reach the record of participating in five World Cups if his national team qualifies for Qatar next year.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has indicated he has no plans to retire from international football soon.

"Thank you, Portugal. Thank you to my teammates and even opponents for enabling me to make this unforgettable journey possible. Let's continue to meet at the stadium for the next few years. I have not yet closed my accounts."

Portugal play Qatar in a friendly match on Saturday before traveling to Azerbaijan on September 7.
