Afghanistan: ‘UK and US must protect Afghans’ - Malala Yousafzai

U.S. President Joe Biden "has a lot to do" and must "take bold action" to protect the people of Afghanistan, Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has said.

The Pakistani women's rights activist was granted asylum in the UK after being shot in the head by a Taliban in 2012.

He told the BBC Newsnight program that the time had come for world leaders - especially Britain and the United States - to take action and protect civilians and refugees in the country.

"Countries need to open their borders to Afghan refugees," she said.

Yousafzai, now 24, was 15 when he was targeted by the Taliban for talking about the right of girls to be educated.

He survived the attack where a militant boarded his school bus northwest of the Swat valley and opened fire, injuring two of his schoolmates as well.

After recovering from his serious injuries, he and his family moved to Birmingham.

At the age of 17, she later became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

He studied at Oxford University and has been a leading human rights activist.

"It's not a US victory," Yousafzai said in an exclusive interview with BBC Newsnight on the problems facing Afghanistan this season.

She added: "My request to all countries, especially the United States, Britain, and the West, is that they must protect all human beings, women and human rights defenders." And you know what happened, you know, we can argue about that. But we also need to talk about the steps we need to take. We need to talk more about the solution right now. "

In addition, he accused the United States of providing irresponsible information when the Taliban captured Afghanistan.

"I think the way the United States described this war and how it was declared the winner, I think this sends a false picture," she said.

"The Taliban have been waiting for twenty years and they [the United States] are claiming what they call victory after that."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently said that the US-led mission in Afghanistan has been successful.
