For decades, the Netherlands has had the tallest people in the world.
Since 1958, the Netherlands has been at the forefront, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
However recent research shows that the length of her last cervix has decreased by an average of 1 centimeter for men and 1.4 for females compared to the previous generation.
Despite a number of factors that have contributed to the decline in the Dutch population, none of them satisfy the experts.
Century controversial growth rate in the Netherlands
CBS conducts health studies every four years which include a measure of height.
In 2020, 19-year-old Dutch men reached a height of 182.9 cm, while women of the same age reached 169.3 centimeters.
This has continued to be rapid and rapid, with men born in 1980 their height increasing by an average of 8.3 centimeters compared to those born in 1930. Similarly, in the case of women their height increased by 5.3 centimeters more over the same period.
"We drink a lot of milk in this country," Ruben van Gaalen, a statistical researcher from CBS and a Professor from the University of Amsterdam, told the BBC as one of the reasons for the Dutch population's height.
However he said that there are several other theories. "It could be a (better) standard of living. Looking at the list of human development of all countries, the Netherlands is among the first countries. Denmark, too, is at the top."
But it also touched on a matter of nature. On the one hand, being taller helps a person to see farther.
There have also been studies on the relationship between height and income. "The longer you get, the more money you make."
'If you are a tall person it gives you more power and you will probably be more listened to by the people, you get more favoritism in society, "he explained, adding that women are generally attracted to men taller than them, so they have a wider range when choosing partners."
In the Netherlands it is common to see women at a height of 1.80 cm or more than their males.
Causes of decrease in Dutch height
At present, however, the growth of the Dutch population or the increase in their height has slowed down, according to a new CBS study through tests provided by about 719,000 individuals between the ages of 19 and 60 years.
The results of the study show that men born at the beginning of the millennium who are now 19 years old have decreased by an average of 1 centimeter compared to their counterparts born in the 1980s. While women themselves height has decreased by 1.4 centimeters.
Experts have cited a number of clues as to the reasons for the decline, ranging from an increase in migration, changes in intake and the impact of the economic crisis.
"Immigration is one of the reasons. If we are the tallest people in the world, that means, the incoming migrants are shorter, so their genes are shorter," the CBS statement said.
"But the fragmentation of Dutch lengths was recorded in the generations in which both parents were born in the Netherlands, as well as in the generations in which their grandparents were born in the country,"
Migration is one of the reasons why the length of the Dutch standards decreased.
In addition, CBS noted on its website that men with no history of immigration did not increase in height and women without a history of immigration showed a lower trend or height decreased significantly.
Another possible theory that expert Ruben van Gaalen suggests is that the average decrease in height may be due to a biological limit: that a person cannot grow back.
But what worries most experts is that it may be due to lifestyle changes and increased use of 'carbohydrates' during adolescence, "Van Gaalen said, warning that growth is affected by poor health, it should be investigated because it is related and the life or age of a person in life.
"We don't smoke but we have a sedentary lifestyle and use more carbohydrates that give us weight. So the indirect effect of not being as tall as in the past causes more anxiety than not being tall."
