A law banning abortion from six weeks until pregnancy has come into force in the state of Texas in the United States
It prohibits abortion after the discovery of what anti-abortion activists call fetal heartbeats, which medical officials say is misleading.
The law, one of the strongest laws on abortion in the country, came into effect after the Supreme Court failed to respond to an emergency appeal by abortion service providers.
Doctors and women's rights groups have strongly criticized the law.
It gives anyone the right to sue an abortion doctor beyond the six-week stage.
The so-called "Heartbeat Act" was signed into law by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in May.
