Apple juice produced by the South African company Ceres has been removed from the market in seven African countries because of its high levels of toxins that can cause vomiting and nausea.
These juices contain a type of toxin produced by some fungi in their apples and products.
Laboratory studies show that Ceres juices have a higher toxicity level than the permissible level of 50 microgrammes per liter.
These juices are sold in Kenya, DRC, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Seychelles, and Mauritius.
This juice has a major market in Eastern and Southern countries (Comesa) and customers have been asked to return the juices purchased from 14 and 30 June 2021
