The United States agrees to help Afghanistan

The new Taliban government says the United States has agreed to provide humanitarian assistance to people in dire need, while the United States says face-to-face talks between them were factual and professional.

According to the Taliban, the talks held yesterday in Doha, Qatar, ended with the United States agreeing to a request for assistance to civilians suffering from poor economic conditions, although it continued to refuse to recognize the Taliban regime.

The United States says its officials and Taliban officials met face-to-face as the first meeting between the two sides since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, but US officials made it clear that the Taliban would be held accountable for their actions and not just words.

"The US delegation focused on security issues and terrorist concerns as well as the safe passage of US citizens, our foreign nationals and allies seeking to leave Afghanistan, as well as human rights, including the participation of women and girls in all spheres of society. of Afghanistan. " A spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, said.

Taliban political spokesman Suhail Shaheen told the AP news agency that Afghanistan's foreign minister had assured the United States in the talks that the Taliban was committed to ensuring that Afghanistan's land was not used by extremist groups to attack other nations.

Closer alert

The two rivals' statements mark the beginning of a dialogue between them, 20 years after the United States invaded Afghanistan and overthrew the Taliban government, and then plunged the country into a two-year-old scourge of killings, refugees, and poverty.

However, the United States' refusal to recognize the Taliban's political regime, makes other security and administrative issues difficult for them. On Saturday, the Taliban completely ruled out the possibility of colluding with the United States in the fight against the so-called Islamic State group, which has intensified its attacks on Afghanistan, since the departure of US-led foreign forces.

The IS or Daesh group, the main enemy of the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for several attacks, including last Friday at a Shia Muslim mosque, in which 46 people were killed.

The Taliban says it can deal with the group without foreign aid, with the United States believing that Daesh is the biggest terrorist threat to him from Afghanistan.

The United States and other Western nations have found themselves in a difficult time of the election in Afghanistan. They are trying to figure out how to work with the Taliban to help the thousands of Afghans facing a difficult life situation, without giving the group the political legitimacy it wants.
