A United Nations report released today showed that the Covid-19 epidemic had caused an 18 percent increase in the number of people facing starvation.
The report said the situation was a setback to achieving the goal of ending world hunger by 2030.
The full impact of the Covid-19 epidemic cannot be ascertained immediately, with a UN report estimating that 118 million people were at risk of starvation by 2020, an increase of 18 percent in 2019.
According to the report, one in ten people was malnourished. The increase in hunger was due to the economic impact in low- and middle-income countries.
The report added that the countries most affected by the famine were those that had experienced the effects of climate change or chaos.
