Scientists in Egypt have discovered a new species of four-legged whale that lived about 43 million years ago.
Fossils of this species, named Phiomicetus Anubis, were first discovered in the West Egyptian Desert.
The skull of his head resembles that of Anubis, the ancient Egyptian wolf god of the dead who bore his name.
The older generation of modern whales was made from animals like deer that lived on the land for a period of 10 million years.
Weighed 600 kilograms and three meters (10ft) in height, Phiomicetus had large and hard jaws to catch prey, according to a study published by Proceedings of the Royal Society B on Wednesday. The whale was able to walk on the ground and swim in the water.
The skeletal part of it was found in Fayum Depression in Egypt and analyzed by scientists at Mansoura University. Although the area is now barren, it was once covered by the sea.
